Through initiatives such as the Palau National Marine Sanctuary and the Blue Prosperity Plan, Palau is advancing a vision for a healthy ocean that supports biodiversity, livelihoods and long-term resilience.

Palau’s Blue Prosperity Plan
The Blue Prosperity Plan provides a comprehensive framework for managing Palau’s ocean resources, balancing strong ocean protection with sustainable economic opportunities, food security and community wellbeing.
The plan brings together conservation, fisheries, tourism, climate resilience and blue economy opportunities to support a future where Palau’s ocean continues to benefit both people and nature.

Palau National Marine Sanctuary
Established in 2015, the Palau National Marine Sanctuary is one of the world’s largest marine protected areas, protecting approximately 80% of Palau’s exclusive economic zone as a fully protected marine sanctuary while supporting sustainable use in the remaining 20%.
The sanctuary reflects Palau’s commitment to safeguarding marine biodiversity, protecting important habitats and ensuring the long-term health of ocean ecosystems.
Conservation International supports efforts to strengthen understanding and management of the sanctuary through research, monitoring, stakeholder engagement and technical support that helps inform effective marine management.
